About
As a swimmer, there is no better feeling than setting a personal best in the pool!
However, this can be difficult for Masters (Adult) Swimmers, because work, children and other commitments can often get in the way of precious training time.
Therefore, to get faster, it's important that Masters Swimmers get the most out of their time in the pool and gym.
That doesn't just mean effective training sets, but also on-point recovery and nutrition.
As such, I help UK Masters Swimmers to swim faster on limited training time, by bringing intention, structure and consistency to their training, nutrition and recovery regimes, as well as their competition preparation.
In addition, I take into account the time constraints Masters Swimmers face and therefore, choose exercises and sets that maximize swimmers' improvement to training time ratio, as well as simplifying recovery and nutritional concepts into easy, actionable steps.
Finally, I do away with monotonous and exhausting sets by programming novel and interesting sessions that still fulfil the scientific principles for you to get stronger, fitter and leaner.
All of this is with the goal of getting you to swim faster, whilst feeling more energized and enjoying training, so that you can break personal bests and qualify for the BIG Masters Swimming competitions!
About Me
Hi, I'm David Westcough,
I'm a competitive Masters Swimmer for East Leeds & Great Britain.
Every year, I compete in the Swim England Masters National Short Course Championships, as well as other national competitions.
In 2023 & 2024 I even competed in the European Masters Swimming Championships!
However, my swimming career was once not so illustrious.
Back at the end of 2017, when I decided to take my swimming more seriously, I could only qualify for the smallest of competitions.
Despite all of the time and effort I was putting in, I wasn't getting faster; just exhausted and frustrated.
At times I questioned whether I was capable of getting quicker at all.
However, over the years since then, I subsequently learned that my training (nutrition & recovery) methods weren't conducive to swimming faster.
I discovered that I was merely doing junk volume, as opposed to intentionally training the weaknesses in my stroke(s).
And when I made the change from the former to the latter, not only did I get faster, but I also started to enjoy training more.
Most excitingly of all, I was able to qualify for and compete in bigger and bigger competitions!
This makes me best-placed to support other Masters Swimmers, as I have been there myself...
Feeling frustrated about my lack of progress in swimming faster, despite the effort that I was putting in.
Feeling exhausted because of all of the effort that I was putting in.
Feeling bored of swimming length after length with no real intention.
However, through the methods we'll use in this program, I turned things around.
First I started to feel more energetic and enjoy training.
Then, I got faster and faster...
And now, it's time for you to do the same!
